Rustaveli 12 — a cursed address. The Constructivist House of Communications built here in the 1930s stood barely two decades. In 1953, it was remodeled into Stalinist Empire style, only to be completed during the campaign against architectural excess. The facade still bears bullet marks from the 1956 protest shooting, the 1989 rally dispersal, and the 1991 civil war fire that nearly destroyed the interior. The restoration plan calls for rebuilding the original facade while converting the building into a hotel complex.
