Half a century ago Andrei Bitov, in his "Georgian Album", already said everything you can still feel and understand in Tbilisi today. One thing that irritated him in particular was the high-rise in the city center: the solemnly Soviet "Iveria". It has since settled in too — with a grim interruption in the '90s, when refugees from Abkhazia lived there — and now, in new glass and under a new name, the Iveria still disrupts the skyline.
